The objective of the event was to train the students on how to develop USSD, SMS, VOICE, PAYMENT and AIRTIME applications using the Africa’s Talking API.

The event began at 10:00 am where Ruth Waiganjo a student at the University of Nairobi started the presentation by informing the students about the company and explaining to them what an API is.

This was followed by a technical hands on session where the students created simple SMS and USSD applications which they deployed and tested. Some of the members of the Africa’s Talking team came to provide further assistance such as Graham who is the head of developer Outreach, he provided further training on implementing SMS and USSD applications using other languages; Sally who is the head of Communications who gave a brief outline about the user stories she writes on developers who use the API ; Kathleen a Data Scientist at Africa’s Talking who spoke about the data she gets and how she is using it to analyse and solve problems; Kanyi who works with the commercial team and has created an android application TaskChap which utilizes the Payment API to pay for deliveries done through the application.
