PhD Laboratory

Description

             

This is a Research Laboratory used by the PhD students as well as researchers within the 7 main SCI Research Thematic Areas as enumerated below.

The School of Computing & Informatics is a centre of excellence in using computer science to transform implicit computing knowledge available in our society into reliable, human-centered educational and industrial products.

The guiding research slogan is "computing solutions for humanity". The philosophy behind the proposed research degrees is:

a) Leadership: To provide leadership in transforming research knowledge for the benefit of society.
b) Product-orientation: All research to be geared towards development of products that provide solutions to real problems that face our society.
c) Partnership: To partner with others to transform research knowledge into commercial products.
d) Research groups: To use research groups as the primary means of carrying out research.
e) Knowledge dissemination: To use technology and every available medium to disseminate the knowledge we acquire for the betterment of society.

 

The School boasts of seven (7) Research Thematic Areas as listed below:

3. ICT for development (ICT4D)

4. Human Language Technology (HLT)

5. Technology Supported Learning

6. Distributed systems and networks

7. E-science
