FST Team showcases digitally enhanced beehive at the 2022 Nairobi International Trade Fair

The Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK)  resumed its physical exhibition in Nairobi with the trade fair starting on Monday 26th September to Sunday 2nd 2022

The University of Nairobi had a stand showcasing research, innovation and all activities that align with the Institution's core mandate and also in line with the trade fair’s theme “Promoting innovation and technology in Agriculture and Trade.

The University performed well in six out of the seven categories. Among the projects that stood out was the digitally enhanced beehive a brain child of students from the faculty of science and technology.

The digitally enhanced beehive is a beehive controlled remotely for improved beehive management. It has a lot of advantages as compared to the regular beehives including; rapid honey harvesting, real time monitoring of beehives, enhanced honey production and provides linkage to markets and distribution infrastructure and improved beehive management.

The students hope to partner with cooperative societies and county governments which will benefit farmers by improved crop production through bee induced pollination
