The University of Nairobi received praise for its significant role in addressing climate change, demonstrated through its contributions in terms of skilled professionals, research, and its academic centers of excellence.

This recognition was reiterated during the launch of the 7th Assessment Cycle (AR7) by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change on August 11, 2023. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the Meteorological Department.

Dr. Cromwel Lukorito, a distinguished Senior Lecturer in the Department of Earth and Climate Sciences at the University of Nairobi, has achieved a significant milestone by being chosen as the Vice Chair of the Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). This notable appointment was officially declared on June 28, 2023, marking a significant recognition of Mr. Lukorito's expertise and contributions in the field.

The national, regional and international experiences of the recent past including the pandemic and economic woes afflicting humanity necessities the need for research to urgently contribute to societal resilience and sustainability of all spheres which support welfare and ensure a brighter future. Measurable socio-economic development and attainment of SDGs remains an elusive dream until new knowledge translates into resilient socio-economic welfare support systems.

On Monday, July 3rd, 2023, the University of Nairobi kick-started a significant venture in cooperation with notable French higher education institutions. The Tripartite Partnership Agreement (TPA) was inaugurated, marking the start of a transformative journey towards the creation of the Engineering and Science Complex (ESC).

The Agroparistech "Water for All" chair has organized a series of Webinars on Ethics and Negotiations on "How to Implement, Negotiate and Develop your organization on Ethics, Integrity and Transparent Processing" from 19th to 23rd June, 2023 from 11:30am to 1:00pm daily. 

In 2021, The University of Nairobi and Thomas More University of Applied Sciences signed a collaborative agreement MOU that has seen more than 40 University of Nairobi students taking part in Virtual exchange in form of Collaborative Online International Learning with Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, Antwerp, Belgium. Faculty members from both universities have also had the opportunity to visit and benchmark.

The 2023 Nairobi Innovation Week place took place on 17th-19th May 2023 On the 17th of May 2023. The three day event provided an opportunity for innovators, start-ups, entrepreneurs, government agencies, funders and academia to showcase their innovations, products, programmes and services all contributing to growing the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region.

EURAXESS Africa Day, which was organized jointly with EURAXESS, EUDEL in Kenya and the Faculty of Science and Technology (University of Nairobi), was held on Thursday, 11th May 2023 at the University of Nairobi Towers
